One of the highlights on the Kirkcudbright calender of events, for gardeners at least, is traditionally held on the first Sunday in May, down at the harbour square. Organised by the summer festivities committe it is a chance to get out and and about, see old gardening friends and see what gems one can find to to stock up our gardens.
We are exceptionally lucky in this part of the world that we still have some of the best independent nurseries in Scotland, the owners of which are to be commended for having great passion and knowledge when it comes to their plants, something which I can appreciate.
To name a couple of standouts there is Elmlee plants from Newton Stewart and Bay view nurseries from Wigtown. Luckily I have visited both nurseries more than once and can highly recommend a visit to one or the other on a sunny afternoon.
Not least the Bay view nursery where after a good rummage amongst the plants there is the added bonus of coffee and cake at the adjoining Bay View hotel restaurant.
So come on down
Happy plant hunting
